elektric devil

another piece for the weekly contest @ ozcomics.  this was a slow burn, worked here and there over the course of the week.  pretty happy with how it turned out, all things considered.  didn't have time (read: was too lazy) to shade a whole lot.  i "penciled" this on the computers, laid in blacks on computers, retraced on computers, printed it out to trace with a steady inking hand, then scanned and colored on computers.  seems like a whole lotta work, but when it comes to smooth lines, nothing beats a pen in hand.

Steelheart

heres my attempt at the Silverhawks character, Steelheart.  I'm not familiar with the series or the character so the costume i'm sure is off.  was done for the ozcomics weekly facebook draw-off.  she was "penciled" in photoshop, then printed in blue and inked traditionally, then re-scanned and colored digitally.  the background is a couple of NASA images photoshopped together. 

wolvie speed paint

hey kids!  here's an old school wolverine.  still like this costume more than any other.  anyways, decided to do a speed painting video since i haven't done one in a while.  when i started i just jestered some random poses, not knowing it would turn out to be wolverine.  when i got to the point where i had to decide who i was drawing, i was like, "okay, lets do someone you haven't done before" and that turned into, "fuck it, wolverine it is".  anyways, here's the vid below:

killeroo

killeroo pinup done as a favor/request by it's creator, Darren Close.  kangaroos heads are HARD.  looks like a doberman...  otherwise, pretty happy with the pose (as unoriginal as it is) and the colors.  think the texture over the colors really helps a lot. pencil, ink & digicolors.

he man

here's a quick he-man i did.  hair and cloth suck, and his face isn't quite "he-man", but i tried a new coloring technique and am pretty happy with how THAT came out.  penciled, inked then digitally colored.

watchmen

a watchmen picture i did for a facebook "draw off" over at ozcomics.  they have one every week and has sorta kicked my ass in gear and i've been participating every week since.  its really fun and can't wait for next weeks challenge!  penciled, inked then colored in PS.

big sword

a random thing i did for a contest where a character used headphones as an item.  i had the headphones plug into his sword and it picks up shrills of his enemies and converts it to energy bob oblaw... was real quick but fun.  inked the photoshipped colors

the being

some sort of alien being i thought up.  didn't turn out quite like i imagined.  but another experiment in digital paint none the less.  want to try something dirtier next time.  like gritty, not lude.

artists, unite!

hey friends!  here's the latest, done as a cover/back for a student magazine in denver.  suppose to wrap around cover to back.  it was a fun concept to actualize.  i'm not entirely happy with the perspective of the building, but i got lazy towards the bottom of it.  oops :)  anyhoo, can we all name the artists comic-ified?  hopefully, it should be fairly easy... please click it and enjoy in full detail!

just a little doodle.  blocked out the blue areas with pencil.  outlined in ink.  then colored in photoshop.

holy ipad batman

HA!  got my grubbies on my friends ipad again.  this time i tried batty-bo-bats.  not too shabby, not happy with the chin, but happy with the ipad!

ipad, take2

a fellow co-worker recently purchased an ipad this weekend.  he told me i could play with it today.  i asked him what he wanted, he replied with something to the effect of:

"i want a liger.  with talons.  on fire.  with guns.  guns that shoot missiles"

this was what came out.

i REALLY NEED an ipad now.  actually getting to play with and spend time on a very good sketch app, nearly crushed any previous gripes.  i would still like a stylus, though.  NEED!

feed me your games!!

an NES monster, suggested by a friend, brought to paper by my hands.  i should have made the controllers, some sort of weapon or something, like electricity coming off them or something.  whatevs clevs.  ink & ps.

faced with boredom

did this one a car ride to a friends on my iphone.  just playin' around.  i want an ipad.

ipad girl

curious, i headed to the local apple shop and played with the ipad for about an hour.  half of that hour was fucking around and then trying to get a drawing app on the damn thing, as that was the aspect i was most interested in and wanted to try out.  why apple didn't put drawing apps on the demo machines is beyond me.  but i got one.  a free one call Adobe Ideas.  which is a really gimpy one.  the four colors you see here are the only ones available.  the biggest brush size is the one you see here.

couple of things, if you draw a quick circle, it turns out more like a hexagon because the app/ipad couldn't trace my finger fast enough i guess?  then there's the finger against glass annoyance, just doesn't flow like a pencil or even a stylus would, also not giving and pressure sensitivity.  also you have to draw with your wrist off the glass, or it thinks you're trying to scroll.

overall, it was really fun, though, drawing on a digital surface that large (as opposed to drawing on my iphone) just makes it that much better.  honestly, i was getting weary standing over the table it was sitting on, but had i been able to sit down and enjoy it, and really spent some time with a decent painting app, i think i could have turned out something pretty decent.  her eyes are far to close together.

honestly,  i could really see myself enjoying one of these things.  if only i had $400 dollars lying around somewhere...

lines of a lady

more lines.  some lines i wish i hadn't drawn and others i wish i had.  oh well, experiments are fun.  the only thing i really like about this is her right hand.  ink & ps.

mustache: future!

ha!  another line experiment.  got a little heavy handed around the nose, but that's also where i started.  bet you wouldn't have guessed, huh?  i'm really liking this line stuff, it's so... autonomous.  i can't wait to do more!
